Kayak Explore -- Cebu - Bohol Crossing

December 3-6, 2009

A prelude to launching the 125km kayak marathon and flotilla crossing is the Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu Kayaking Eco-Games and Forum. This day is intended to show the sporting challenges and fun aspect of kayaking with its relevance to community-based efforts to provide livelihood and capability building opportunities. Local participants will be coming from some coastal municipalities of Cebu and Mactan. This will be held on December 3 under the new Fernan Bridge hosted by Lapu-Lapu City Tourism Commission and the Sports and Events Bureau.

From Mactan Island, Cebu to the Island of Bohol, kayakers will cross the 125 km scenic route passing through a motley of islets coves, mangroves and river deltas. From Punta Engano down following a 5 km coastal run along Mactan Island passing through resorts and other sites, then on to Olango, down to Getafe, Bohol.

The race and eco touring flotilla will then move eastward towards Panglao passing through coastwise and municipal waters; stopping by at designated control points where local packages and tours are introduced. Coastal municipalities participate with their local cuisine, products and cultural presentation.

The crossing would have four (4) components, namely:

a. 3-Leg 125Km Kayak Marathon under two (2) categories, the sit-in and the sit-on-top
b. Kayak Clinics and 5km Novice Races
c. Flotilla – For pre-booked tourists, supporters and sight seers who would be riding a banca following the route of the paddlers for the entire trip, stopping at points of interests, eco-cultural tourism sites and attractions in the coastal communities along the way;
d. Eco tour day, overnight and 3Days/2Night packages available from Mactan to Getafe, Tagbilaran to Tubigon, Maribojoc and Panglao.

This three-day event would have overnight sleep-overs at locations in Tubigon and Maribojoc. Finish line is set at the Bohol Beach Club, while awarding ceremonies and a victory party to be conducted at the Dumaluan Beach in Bolod.
